I used to blog around 12 hours per day, 7 days per week last year. My life revolved around blogging and blogging some more. My mom was concerned with the kind of life I was living — after all, after work, I sleep, and when I wake up, it’s back to work again. It’s a never-ending cycle many of those who problog full time experience. When you get sucked into being a work-a-holic, it’s hard to get out, believe me. I’m sure even those with 9 to 5 jobs get what I’m trying to say. It’s especially hard because sometimes, there are no boundaries between your personal and work life, what with many probloggers working at home.
However, a few months later, when I started becoming ill for periods of time, I realized the mistake I was making. If I didn’t get my life back, or at least get a bit of rest, I’ll definitely kick the bucket soon. After a while, I had to decide to rest during the weekends. It was imperative for me to be able to recover. Miraculously, I got in the same amount of work despite shaving hours off of my usual workday and the whole weekend altogether.
Bloggers need rest because:
1. Health problems may arise.
2. You’ll work better and faster with a rested mind.
3. You might lose real life friends in process.
4. You need time for other things in life.
5. You’re also human.
Since I’ve started resting, I realized that I’m a much happier and healthier person. Whereas before I was always cranky, I can manage to joke every once in a while now. Don’t be tempted to stop living life even if you earn from blogging. Create a proper balance and you’ll definitely feel better.

<strong>text here</strong>
2. Italicized text
<i>text here</i>
OR
<em>text here</em>
3. Underlined Text
<u>text here</u>
4. Paragraph breaks
<p>paragraph here</p>
Adding the paragraph tags, for example, to two separate paragraphs would put them in paragraph form on the blog, whereas not doing so might mesh the two paragraphs together, depending upon your CMS.
5. Lists
For ordered lists: <ol>insert list here</ol>
For unordered bulleted lists: <ul>insert list here</ul>
To specify each element of the list, use: <li>element</li>
So, for example I’m making an unordered list, it would look like this:
<ul>
<li>element 1</li>
<li>element 2</li>
<li>element 3</li>
</ul>
6. Insertion of pictures:
<img src=”insert pic address here”>
7. Picture alignment
If you want your pics to be enveloped by text, you can use the “align” attribute. For example:
<img src=”insert pic address here” align=”left/right/center”>
8. Insertion of links
<a href=”insert link here”>Anchor text or the text that would appear visible onscreen</a>
9. Opening links on a new window
Insert the term target=”_blank” inside the codes bracket.
<a href=”insert link here” target=”_blank”>Anchor text</a>

What happens when your blog story gets featured on the front page of Yahoo! Get prepared for the highest site traffic ever. As Yahoo! Buzz is getting a revamp (after Yahoo! Picks closed), some lucky publishers are getting an opportunity to join as Yahoo! Buzz Publishers and drive huge unbelievable traffic to their sites with pageviews being limited by how much load the web hosting server can handle…
Salon.com announced that it hit over 1 million uniques in one day for the first time in the company’s 12-year history, a traffic milestone reached when Yahoo! linked from its home page. Techcrunch reports that they received their highest traffic day ever with over 1,000 comments on the post, which almost brought the site down.
Yahoo is still ramping up the number of links it puts on the home page from Buzz, and is being careful about the potential to flat out nuke websites with all the traffic they can send. But it’s clear that a link from Yahoo.com blows away anything Digg or any other competitor can offer. That will keep the Buzz publishers, who must be invited into the service, paying attention.
How does Yahoo Buzz send you huge traffic?
Yahoo! Buzz features the most interesting stories and videos on the Web and the content is ranked based on votes, search-term popularity, and what people are reading and emailing that instant. Yahoo Buzz does not use holding story pages on their site, but rather directly links to the story page boosting traffic to your site to read the full story. You can promote the story further by adding a vote button. Selected Top Buzz content may be featured on the Yahoo! homepage too!
Yahoo! informs that the current beta test is limited to a small set of select publishers to ensure they can evolve the program in a way that is most beneficial for a good user experience. They will be accepting new publishers soon and you can join the mailing list for updates.
Can your web server survive 1 million hits?
This is way beyond the number of visitors Digg or Fark can send your way. Most sites hosted on shared webhosting will not be able to handle such traffic even for minutes, so I guess they will be joining in top websites and blogs on dedicated servers initially who can handle the traffic. Do you prefer your few thousand daily visitors, or rather have a crashed site everyday…
Embed a Web Browser on Your Web Site:

Google is a very very very powerful tool! If you know how the Internet works and you know how Google works, you can find out some “very secret information” from the dark corners of the Internet. You see, Google tries to “index” everything that is on the Internet. What does “index” mean? Basically, “index” means, read and remember! You see, Google is reading websites on the Internet 24 hours a day. It is looking at new websites and new web pages. It looks at each web page and finds out what the web page is about. It decides how good the web page is and also decides many other things about the web page…Google does all this so that when you search for something using Google, it can give you the most relevant results from among the web pages it has visited. This is what we mean when we say that Google tries to index everything on the Internet. Now, the part we are interested in: Since Google indexes the Internet, we can find things that are hidden in all the corners of the Internet. If some one has put their password on the net, you can find it! If a big online shopping site, has put all the credit card information of it’s customers on the net, you can find it! You can find some very interesting things if you know how to use Google! This article will teach you the basics of how to find cool things using Google.
On the Internet, the files are saved in the same way as they are saved on your computer. All the files are organized into folders so that they are easy to understand and use. For example: On your computer, you may have different folders like, “music” or “videos” or “documents” etc.. On the Internet also files are generally organized into folders. For example, a mp3 music website site may have all the songs that the website provides in a directory called “songs”! Now, if you can use Google to find the "songs" directory, you will have the directory and all the songs in it! That is basically what we are going to teach you how to do…Note that, it’s not as simple as that. All the big sites, that serve 1000’s of songs and charge for it, are not going to just have their “songs” directory in the open for anyone to hack. There are many ways to protect your website from these Google hacks! Most big websites are protected from Google hacks. But, this hack is still quite useful because there are many small websites out there who have their “songs” directory in the open and un-protected for anyone to see…Now, an open or un-protected directory on the Internet, generally looks something like this:
Irrespective of where or how the un-protected directory is, it generally always looks like the image above. This is important because we are going to get Google to search for all these un-protected directories on the Internet…
In the image above, we have marked with a red circle all the parts of un-protected directory page that will be there in every un-protected directory. The words:
Index of
Name
Last Modified
Size
Description
will be part of almost every un-protected directory. There is also one other part that is there in every un-protected directory on the Internet. This part is, the words: “Index of” in the “Title” of the web page.
If you are not sure what the "title" of a web page is, you could look up to the top-most part of this window. The line right on top is called the title. For example: The title of this web page is: “How to find un-protected directories using Google? :: indiahowto.com” Similarly, the title of an unprotected web-page will have the words “Index of” in it. So, we are going to get Google to search for all these web pages of un-protected directories. We will be able to do this, using some basic Google commands....
You are probably wondering why we were talking about the "Index of" and the other common elements of the un-protected directory...well, continue to read....
Google is a search engine and a whole lot more. There are many cool things you can do with Google…For example: Try this….go to Google and type in “122131 + 32112” or “13324 - 231” or “2332 / 231” See what it gives you. Google can also be used as a calculator! But, that is not needed for what we are trying to do. We just mentioned it so that you would know that there is a lot that Google can do….What we are trying to do is look for pages that have:
The phrase “Index of” in the title
The phrase “Index of” on the page
The word “Name” on the page
The word “Size” on the page
The word “Description” on the page
The word “Last Modified” on the page
If you we find pages that fit this criteria, we will have found all the un-protected directories on the Internet. So how do we do this?Type this line in the Google search box: intitle:"index of" +"index of" +size +name +description +modifiedWhen you search for this, you will find all the un-protected directories on the Internet that Goggle has found! Try to see what people have stored in the unprotected directories! It could be fun!
But, what is more important is, let us try to understand how that line works. Once you understand how that line works, you will be able to make your own lines and extract all sorts of cool things out of Google. The line: intitle:"index of" +"index of" +size +name +description +modifiedIt is made up of many different small Google commands. The different commands are:intitle:"index of" : This tells Google to only search for web pages with the term “index of” in the Title of the web page. The term “intitle:” is called an OPERATOR. So if you have intitle:"index of" in the search box, Google knows that it has to search for only pages with “index of” in the title… +"index of" : This tells Google that all the pages that come in the search results, must have “index of” on the page. The “+” basically tells Google that whatever is after the “+” MUST be there in all the pages that Google provides in the results. For example: You go to Google and type in “monkey +cat” it will provide all the pages that have the term monkey and also have the term “cat” in them. If you just type in “monkey cat” then the pages that have “monkey or cat” or “monkey and cat” may show up in the search results. Basically, just remember if you want all searched pages to have a particular word, use the “+”! This is useful is the cases when you are searching for a “synonym” kind of word. For example: Let us say you are searching for an article about “voice recognition”. But whenever, you type in “voice recognition” the results that come are about “Asha Bhosle”! But what you are looking for is the “method” of voice recognition. So, to clear up the results, you can use a search terms like this:“voice recognition” +method –“Asha Bhosle"Now, you may get much better search results! The search results will be about “voice reognition”…. It will have only pages with the word “method” in them and it will NOT have pages with the term “Asha Bhose” in them. Things to notice:
If you put anything within “quotation” marks, Google searches for that exact phrase
A “+” behind a term will make sure that term is there in all the results pages
A “-“ behind a term will make sure that term is NOT there in all the results pages
There is NO SPACE between the “+” and the term or the “-“ and the term. Basically there is no space between the “operator” and the term.
Having understood all this, let us look at the whole line again. It should make much more sense:intitle:"index of" +"index of" +size +name +description +modifiedThe line basically tells Google to search for pages with:
The phrase “index of” in the title
The phrase “index of” somewhere on the page
The word “name” somewhere on the page
The word “size” somewhere on the page
The word “description” somewhere on the page
The word “modified” somewhere on the page
And if you understood everything till now, you will see how this command can be used to find all the un-protected directories on the Internet! Look at it carefully....intitle:"index of" +"index of" +size +name +description +modifiedNow, let us do cool stuff….let us find ebooks, games, songs etc.. in these un-protected directories!
Having understood all this till here, this part should be pretty simple. Let us say you want to find songs, you simply have to tell Google to look for “mp3” files in all the un-protected directories. To do this you can use this line:intitle:"index of" +"index of" +size +name +description +modified +mp3It makes sense, does it not? Just add a “+mp3” at the end. This will make sure that all the pages come up have the term “mp3” in them. Similarly, if you wanted to find all the “ebooks” in all the up-protected directories, you could use this line:intitle:"index of" +"index of" +size +name +description +modified +pdfIncase, you are not sure what “pdf” is, “pdf” is the format in which ebooks come! You probably get the idea now. But, you are still not getting what exactly you are looking for…you are just getting all the un-protected ebooks and mp3s! Let us make the search more specific. You can search for a “Dil Se" mp3 using a line like this:intitle:"index of" +"index of" +size +name +description +modified +mp3 dil seNotice that I have not put “dil se” in quotes or in front of a “+”. This is because I do not know how the “dil se” file will be saved! It may be saved by some different name like “dilse23.mp3”! So I just let Google figure out the closest match! Basically if you are not sure about the exact words the web page will contain, just type it without any operator or quotes and let Google figure out the closest match! Now, you probably have a good understanding of how to get the search to work for you. Just to give you a few examples:To search for WinZip program in the un-protected directories you might use something like:intitle:"index of" +"index of" +size +name +description +modified +exe win zip To search for a “Harry Potter” ebook, you might want to use something like:intitle:"index of" +"index of" +size +name +description +modified +pdf harry potter.
Please Note: You may not get what you are looking for each and every time. Somethings are just too valuable to keep in an un-protected directory! But, most of the time you will be able to find what you are looking for!
Best Of Luck!
Facebook made several important announcements to kickoff its F8 developer conference this afternoon: the launch of Facebook Connect, the Great Apps program for preferred applications, and the ability for developers to translate their applications into different languages. However, a few things that developers and onlookers thought Facebook might announce didn’t come to pass. Here’s a look at a few of them:
Payment System – There was a fair amount of speculation that Facebook would announce a payment system to allow developers to monetize their applications. Facebook made no mention of this, and didn’t touch on monetization throughout the keynote. Meanwhile, some developers are already starting to integrate their own payment options, including Playfish, which I profiled this morning.
Advertising Program for Developers – While Facebook has made it clear that no advertising will be permitted outside of application canvas pages in a new set of platform policies issued earlier this week, there was no announcement of plans for Facebook to launch its own revenue share program for developers to monetize their apps. This is good news for the dozens of advertising networks currently selling inventory for developers.
Support for OpenIDyahoo-google-and-myspace-versus-facebook Mar-25-2008 – Following MySpace’s announcement yesterday that they will support OpenID, it seemed possible that Facebook may at least become an identity provider, if not the first big social network to actually let users login using the standard. No such announcement was made.
Finances – While Facebook shared a lot of numbers, including announcing that it has passed 90 million active users worldwide, there was no mention of the company’s overall financial performance. However, they did note that more than $200 million has been invested in Facebook applicationThe-New-Faces-at-Facebook developers - $34 million of which came this week with venture capital investments in Zynga and LivingSocial.
Clearly, the focus of this year’s F8 is on the Facebook re-design, its implications for developers, and moving the platform in the direction of creating a better end user experience. But short of Facebook Connect, which everyone knew was coming, there was certainly no “wow factor” in today’s announcements of the magnitude of last year’s platform launch. What do you think? Pleased or disappointed with the Facebook announcements? Voice your opinions in the comments.
Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks
Posted by Pradit | 7:32 PM | 0 comments »Google has just launched Lively, a new social network built around the concept of each user creating an avatar and a personal virtual room that can be embedded anywhere on the Web. In essence, Google is looking to create a massive distributed virtual world, where every Google account can have its own avatar that can be used wherever a Lively virtual room is present – for example, on a blog, a social networking profile, or a Web page.
Here’s a closer look at what Google is launching, how it works, and how it might fit into Google’s larger social networking plans:
Getting Started
To use Lively, you do need to sign up using a Google account and download a browser plug-in. From there, you are able to create your own avatar – starting from a “template” character which then has customizable attributes like skin tone, hair color, and eye colors. You can also dress your character with clothing and accessories. In turn, you’re now ready to use Lively wherever you encounter a room on the Web by signing into it with your virtual account.
Lively Rooms
Similar to avatars, Lively offers several templates for starting your room that can then be customized – for example, a 5 room apartment, or a desert island (rooms can be outdoors). From there, you can do things like add your own background music, insert furniture, pull in photos from Picasa (and other services) and embed YouTube videos on a virtual plasma screen TV. In the example below, a virtual Googleplex shows a YouTube video of Sergey Brin and Larry Page:
Once a room has been created, embed code allows you to copy it to any Web page. Each room also has its own URL on Lively, if you prefer to just send your friends to your room directly.
User Interactions
When you’re in a room, there are text chatting options, emotions (angry, happy, say hello, etc.), and you can move around furniture (if the room owner permits it). Some of the emotions are tied to the text chat – for example, if you type “hello,” your avatar will wave. If you enter a room and there is no one it, you can leave a message and a piece of furniture for the room owner.
The Social Graph
For now, Lively has its own buddy list that you build one-by-one by inviting your friends. However, Engineering Manager Niniane Wang hints that the product will eventually move to support the porting of your friends from other social networks – per initiatives like Facebook Connect, MySpace Data Availability, and Google’s own Friend Connect product. There are already Facebook and OpenSocialyahoo-google-and-myspace-versus-facebook Mar-25-2008 applications for Lively that allow you to see which of your friends are signed in.
Monetization Potential
While for now Lively is a free product, there are already hints at the monetization potential Google is looking at with this product. For example, when browsing room templates you can use, it lists the price as “free,” implying that eventually there will be premium versions to choose from. Additionally, with the inclusion of wardrobe options, it’s not hard to connect the dots and see massive opportunities for product placement, such as decorating your character with Nike shoes or a Starter jacket (or whatever the kids are wearing these days).
Is This Google’s New Social NetworkingMost-Networked-Executives Strategy?
Wang tells me that Lively came about during Google’s famous “20 percent time,” where engineers devote 1/5th of their time to their own ideas and projects. But, it’s safe to say that this project may turn into much more. Tying an avatar to your Google account that can be used anywhere there is a Lively room is a unique idea that takes advantage of Google’s huge userbase.
Moreover, the ability to create and decorate a room to include on your social networking profiles may be a hit with younger users, if the success of services like Slide, RockYou, and SecondLife is any indicator. Lively is also a bit of a destination site – offering users the ability to browse rooms randomly to meet new people. It’s an ambitious new project from Google, and one that will be worth watching in the months ahead.
I recently fixed a machine that got infected by a virus that works like this: every time you click on a directory, an error message gets displayed that goes like this:
Attention, [name]! Some dangerous trojan horses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows XP files corrupted. This may lead to the destruction of important files in C:\WINDOWS. Download protection software now!
This error message is then followed by a dialog box. Clicking on it takes you to the website http://free-viruscan.com/id/4912933/4/1/ (WARNING: The website is a FAKE meant to deceive the visitor into downloading and executing a program that will create more virii. Do not interact with it).
After what seemed like hours of research I finally came upon the FixIEDef program developed by ShadowPuterDude of Malwareteks. Ran it, it was bye bye virus.
This is it..
Text Ads versus Image Ads
Google Adsense gives you three options: text ads only, image ads only, text and image ads. If you go for text ads only, you'll get an ad block ("unit") with only text ads - no pictures. But opt for image only and you may get a blank block because nobody is willing to pay the, presumably much higher, cost of a full-block picture ad on your page. The solution is to go for the 'text and image ads' option: if someone will cough up for an image ad you get an image ad, otherwise you get text ads.
Will I get rich by having Google Ads on my site
Will Google AdSense make you rich? Er, no.
Unless your page gets hundreds of thousands of hits a day maybe. I've been going about a month and my experience has been that if you get a few hundred hits a day you might earn a couple of dollars a day. No doubt this varies greatly. Advertisers can bid to pay anything from 1 cent each time someone clicks on an Ad on your page. Google don't say what percentage they keep and what percentage they pass on to you.
So, I'd speculate that if your site is found with unpopular or uncommercial search words you're going to be in a-few-cents-per-click territory but if your site is popular and found with very commercial keywords my guess is you'd surely get a lot more per click. For example, if Boeing sold planes on the web and your site ranked top for searches on "I want to buy a plane" Boeing might be prepared to pay you quite a lot each time someone clicked through to them from your page.
Google Ads - Cents per Click By Page
Some of my pages typically get 0% of visitors clicking through. Other pages get 15% of visitors clicking an ad. On some pages each click earns one or two cents, on other pages sometimes a dollar or more per click. Play with page layouts and ad formats to see how it affects the number of click-throughs and cents-per-click you're earning each day.
Apparently ads with no border around them and with the background colour and link colour matching your page increases the number of click-throughs.
For UK residents Google will send you a cheque in good old British pounds. And I daresay they might even send you a cheque in Euros if you were so inclined .
Practical example of google ads: getting paid by google
Just had my first cheque from Google! Lovely jubbly! It's now 3 months since I put the google code onto one of my web pages. Having got the code on one page I've simply copied and pasted the same code onto several of my web pages on various sites - no need to go back to the google site each time. The 160-wide ads definitely do better than the 120-wide ads - maybe other ad layouts on offer on google's site would do even better, I don't know. Definitely worth experimenting with various ad layouts and placement on your page. The cents-per-click has gone up a bit since I started. Could be that Google monitors which ads people click on and put on your site the ones that earn the most revenue - i.e. max cents-per-click x average number-of-clicks-per-day. That's how I'd do it if I were Google anyway. Or maybe advertisers are starting to bid up the price-per-click to appear on my site, though this seems less likely as I can't imagine advertisers even being aware of my humble little sites, let alone bidding to appear on them.
Google Adsense For Content Channels
I've finally figured out Google Adsense Channels.I have half a dozen web sites but don't have Google Ads on every page of every site. Hitherto my Google Adsense Reports have shown totals across all pages/sites. Great, but it gives you no idea which pages get the click throughs or if the cents-per-click varies by page.Channels provides the answer. You can define each page as a channel and thus get reports by page: number of visits per day, the number of click-throughs, the percentage of visitors who click through, and cents per click. All per page.Channels also lets you track individual ads blocks. So on one page you could have a 160 text, 120 image and a square block and see clicks, and cents per click, per Google Ad unit.Click here to go back up to the link to the Google Adsense site Google AdSense Practical example of google ads: getting paid by google
